Project Activity: Phase 3 drainage surveys

Length of Drainage Surveyed: 3000m

Hours of Works: Weekend and Nighttime working

Overview of Works:

Crown Plus Limited were appointed by ARUP to undertake the Phase 3 drainage surveys for the new £460 Million A417 Missing Link scheme, due to commence in late 2022.

The drainage surveys were undertaken to facilitate the detailed drainage design on a new 3.4-mile dual carriageway which will link Air Balloon Island to Cowley Roundabout in Gloucester.

The initial phase of surveys took place over 1 month, commencing in early May 2022 and required close collaboration with ARUP’s and Soil Engineering.

Activities undertaken by Crown Plus included the survey of all drainage features and surface assets, undertaken in accordance with DMRB CS 551 section 7, including buried drainage features and CCTV and condition surveys of selected assets.

As part of the works, Crown Plus worked alongside Soil Engineering in their planned road closures, whilst also taking responsibility for the design and implementation of independent traffic management to facilitate the surveys being completed on local roads and private land.

These preliminary works support the National Highways £460 million scheme to upgrade the A417 between Gloucester and Swindon.
