Case Study

Project Overview

Project Activity: Overburden removal and filter drain recycling

Hours of Works: Weekday daytime working

Summary of Works: The scheme was undertaken on the A467, a key route around the Risca town centre which links Caerphilly County Borough to Newport and Cardiff and the wider M4 and provides access for some 28,000 vehicles daily.

The A467 required works to improve road user safety by primarily replacing safety fencing and filter drains, thus preventing or reducing the incidents of flooding and potential accidents and minimizing road closures and unwanted diversionary routes through the town centre.

Crown Plus were commissioned by Barrier Services Ltd to undertake extensive overburden removal, filter drain recycling of approximately 1000m3 of filter drain media, the excavation of 200m3 of 70mm gabion stone and replacing with compliant Type B stone.

Works were undertaken under “back to back” lane 2 closures during daytime hours. All waste materials removed as part of the in-situ recycling works were transported to a local recycling facility for additional recovery and recycling.

The works were undertaken very successful by the Crown Plus team, in two phases either side of Christmas throughout challenging wet conditions.
