Case Study

Project Overview

Project Activity: Highway drainage replacement

Length of Drainage Replaced: 120metres

Hours of Works: Weekend and night-time working

Summary of Works: In June 2019 Crown Plus initially undertook as-built survey works of an existing Aco-drain, located between the slip road and lane 1 of the M40 northbound at junction 15 which identified 120m of drain required replacement. In collaboration with the client, the commission was extended with Crown Plus appointed principal contractor for the necessary drain replacement works which were subsequently carried out in 2020.

Junction 15 carries around 75,000 vehicles a day. This busy section of road is where the London-Birmingham motorway (M40) meets the A46 and the A429, linking Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Coventry, necessitating detailed planning and effective collaboration with the numerous third parties and stakeholders involved.

The drainage replacement works were successfully undertaken as planned, with no safety or environmental issues and no near misses. Crown Plus attribute the success of this commission to the high levels of health and safety and through the following factors:

  • Rigorous pre-planning and preparation
  • Effective supply chain management
  • Collaborating with all stakeholders
  • Having knowledgeable, flexible and capable staff
  • Good supervision
