Project Activity: Overburden removal and in-situ filter drain recycling
Hours of Works: Weekday night time working
Summary of Works: The scheme was undertaken between junctions 17 Stanton St Quinton and 18 Tormarton on the M4 as part of the National Highways Southwest Drainage Capital Spend allocation.
Crown Plus assumed the works for client Dyer and Butler to undertake just under 7km of in-situ filter drain recycling to the east bound and west bound verges.
In total approx. 4000t of existing filter drain material was excavated and recycled in situ, and as part of the operation approximately 3200t of type B drainage stone being recovered for re-use into the works. This resulted in a dramatic saving on conventional ‘dig out and replace’ scheme due to both the environmental and health and safety benefits of the process. Some 178 lorry movements were saved, drastically reducing the carbon footprint associated with vehicle movements and material supply.
The works were delivered successfully by the Crown Plus team, throughout initial challenging wet and stormy conditions.
